My First Taste of… Jo Malone

Hello there blogger-sphere 😉

I don’t know if you could tell, but I’m making these “My first taste of…” posts a bit of a series on my blog. You see, I wouldn’t say I am a very discerned beauty-critic (I’ve worked in the industry since I was 16, but I’m only 18 next week so it doesn’t really count for much) so many products that I try are my first encounter with the brand. However, I feel that this is positive in a way, as I can give a more level-headed opinion of the product for all us average joes out there.
Anyway! Onto the goodies…
I very gratefully received these two beauties for Christmas (even though I picked them out myself.. lol mum). I chose the Pomegranate Noir Candle and Orange Blossom Cologne. The candle is lovely: It burns without soot, smells incredible and is very pretty to look at on my dressing table. However, it does come at a premium price (£38 ouch!), the same as Diptyque. I have to say, it is a wonderful product but not something that I could afford to buy often. As for Jo Malone vs Diptyque, I actually prefer this – just because of the soot. But don’t get me wrong – I still do love those Frenchies over at Diptyque – but you must must must trim the wick.
As for the cologne, Orange Blossom won’t be for everyone. While in the Jo Malone store, I smelt every single one of their scents. Originally, I was going to go for the Nectarine Blossom and Honey scent but when I smelt it in the flesh it just didn’t quite gel with me. When it comes to fragrance I am quite fussy – I like my scent to be an extension of myself in a way (theres some identity-creation Psychology for ya there.. any other marketing students out there? ;)). But when I smelt Orange Blossom it reminded me of my trips to Thailand a few years ago and nostalgia bubbled over me so I just had to have it. It’s a very oriental, different scent and I love it.
Have any of you ever tried anything from Jo Malone? I must say, I am intrigued by their new Earl Grey and Cucumber scent. Maybe another visit to the store is on the cards…
