Would life be easier if I wasn’t a blogger?

A question that I’m sure most bloggers have asked themselves at some point or another is why am I bothering with all this? On those days when I’ve spent hours shooting and writing a post, only for it to bomb, I certainly have asked myself this question. What am I getting out of this? Why am I giving up all of my spare time for this?

I normally spend a few hours mulling over these questions before relenting and opening up my laptop again. No matter how frustrated I feel, I always go back to blogging. Like a fuckboy boyfriend, blogging reels me back in and I go willingly back to it, forgetting all it’s past transgressions.

The thing is, on the surface my life would be easier if I wasn’t a blogger. I would have a lot more spare time, I wouldn’t spend as much money on flowers for photos ($$$), I wouldn’t compare myself to other people on a daily basis. I wouldn’t feel the pressure of trying to fit in the time to write blog posts, or worry if I didn’t put up an Instagram post that day.

However, if I didn’t have blogging in my life there would be something missing. If I wasn’t writing or taking photos in my spare time, what would I be doing? Probably watching Netflix, if I’m honest.

What I’ve come to realise is that while blogging is a huge thing that I’ve taken on, and my life would superficially be easier without it, I can’t live without it. I love that it pushes me to be creative – to want to improve my photography skills, my writing. As someone who has always been more of a ~creative~ person their whole life, blogging has allowed me to tap into that when the things going on my professional/student life were sapping the creativity from me.

This industry is frustrating. It can feel like everyone else is passing you by, while you stay stagnant. Algorithms and bots can make you feel like it’s all not worth it anymore. But at the end of the day, we all started our blogs for a reason – because we had something to say.

Going forward, I’m going to remind myself of this whenever things get tough. I’m going to remember that 17 year old girl setting up a Blogspot account and excitedly typing away about what she’d bought in Boots that day. Even though (I like to think) my content has improved and know take this whole blogging thing a lot more seriously, I never want to lose the love that I feel for this little hobby.

As always, I’d love to know what you think. Do you think your life would be easier if you weren’t a blogger? Do you regret starting? Or do you think it’s all worth it in the end? Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter or Instagram.

On an unrelated topic, if you’d like to see some more Spring fashion things I’ve updated my shop page. I’m going to be adding everything I buy this season as well as an edit of my top picks that I see on my favourite stores – happy shopping!
