While I was living in Canada, I spent a lot of time in cafés. Montréal is particularly famous for it’s plethora of cute little independent coffee shops and I took full advantage of this. However, during one of my early coffee outings when I first arrived I encountered a new drink that I had never heard of before; the London fog latte.
The name intrigued me so I decided to give it a try and it fast became my favourite hot drink. Despite the connotations of it’s name, this drink contains no coffee. It is in fact quite like a Chai Tea Latte, only made with calming & botanical Earl Grey tea instead. I find it a very soothing hot drink, one for enjoying during some quiet chill-out time. However, it is seemingly non-existent here in the UK so I had to try to make it myself at home – & so here we are today!
I possibly shouldn’t call this post a ‘recipe’ as it really is so simple, but really those are the best kind of recipes to follow!
Ingredients + Method
What you’ll need:
Earl Grey tea bags
Milk (of your choice!)
Vanilla syrup (or essence, then just add a sweetener!)
What you have to do:
- First of all, boil some water and add a tea bag to a cup or mug of your choice.
- Fill up just above half of the mug with water and leave the tea to brew for a few minutes.
- In the meantime, heat up your milk. I have a coffee machine with a steamer on it, so I just do it like that. If you don’t have this, you could heat it up in the microwave or in a pot on the stove.
- Remove the tea bag & top up the mug with milk. Add a dash of the vanilla syrup & mix together.
So there you have it! It really is that simple. But I thought I’d share it anyway as it really is one of my favourite things to have during the Autumn/Winter months. If you give it a try, do let me know!
