How to Bring Hygge into Summer.

Today I’m going to be talking about the blogger buzzword that we were all obsessed with in the colder months. ‘Hygge’ seemed to be the defining word of Autumn/Winter 2016, didn’t it? While everyone seems to have moved onto ice-creams, bare legs and picnics in the park now that we are into the summer, I am still a fan of being cosy in the warmer months. So today I thought I would talk about how to feel ‘hygge’ in the summer and bring a little bit of cosiness into your life (even if it’s warm outside).  I am such a big fan of creating nice little comfortable set-ups for myself – as I’ve mentioned before, I’m a bit of a grandma! But I also think it is really beneficial for our mental health to take some time to really unwind and creating a ‘hygge’ set up seems to really help me do that.

Binge watch all the great summer TV shows

Let’s face it, there is likely to be a lot of rainy days in the UK this summer. So next time you’re stuck inside, start a new series and set yourself up with some snacks in front of the TV. Max and I are always dreaming about upgrading our TV as we are total Netflix/movie addicts – this Ultra HD 4K TV Panasonic have come out with is literally our dream! Just imagine what the Game of Thrones battles would look like on it…

I feel like summer is definitely one of the best times of year for TV. On my current to-watch list is the new seasons of House of Cards and Orange is the new Black, the Handmaid’s Tale and also I can’t wait for the new season of Game of Thrones (obviously). It almost makes you wish for rainy days! (Almost).

Invest in some summer candles

We don’t really talk about candles much in the summer, do we? But when it hits September your Instagram feed will be filled with pumpkin, cinnamon and vanilla candles (probably posed beside some Autumnal leaves). However, I am a big fan of the summer candle and I think it’s a great way to make your space much cosier.

I am a big fan of Jo Malone’s English Pear and Freesia candle during summer – the scent is so fresh and delicious! For a more purse-friendly option, Marks & Spencer have some great summer candles this year. This lemon & tuberose one has the most beautiful packaging and is a great price for such a large candle!

Take the hygge outside

Of course if we do get some good weather, we have to make the most of it! But you can still get cosy outside. My plans for the next warm & dry day we have is to take out some blankets to my garden with a bottle of rosé wine, a book and lots of pillows. Then it’ll be like being in bed, but outside!

Perhaps it’s the grandma in me, but I really enjoy having a glass of wine by myself and just chilling out. I like just being with my own thoughts and letting the wine make my head a bit fuzzier. Add some music (through headphones!), my book and some snacks and it’ll be the perfect hygge afternoon.

Make your space cosy (but cool)

During the Autumn and Winter, I feel like all you need is some blankets and the heating turned on to feel cosy! But in the summer when it’s a little warmer, it can be difficult to feel the same way. So I like to make sure my space is still comfortable but not too warm (goodbye blankets!) during the summer to get the same effect.

My favourite ways to do this is to add fresh flowers everywhere. There are so many more varieties of flowers available at this time of the year and I make full use of it so that my room always has that bit of colour. I also love adding some fairy lights to my room to make it feel extra cosy – I turn them on even when it’s still light outside!

I thought I’d also just add that if you are in a really warm place, then possibly the best thing to make your space comfortable is a fan. Let’s be real. Fairy lights, fresh flowers, fluffy pillows and a fan blowing on you. Now that sounds pretty damn hygge to me.
